Well, how should we categorize this ? This is the first we are writing a post which is out of our blog main focus, haha. Well, everything has its first time right ? The same goes to this ! Penang Bridge Half Marathon, being held for the very first time on 14th June 2015 at Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge with only two distance of 21km and 8km (fun run). The run for 21km were flag off at the same time for all Open, Veteran and Junior category by Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng at around 4.30am after a display of fire works.

As usual, it is always crowded with people at the starting line and it really takes great effort if one would like to stand in front of the starting line but this time the organizer is doing it a little different. We were required to choose our estimated run duration during registration which were divided into 4 zone :

Corral 1 : 1.00 - 2.00 hours
Corral 2 : 2.01 - 2.30 hours
Corral 3 : 2.31 - 3.00 hours
Corral 4 : 3.01 - 3.30 hours

These were probably to solve the issues of the bridge being over crowded and hinder those professional runners from achieving their goal.

If you were at the Penang Bridge International Marathon 2014, you would know that the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge was really crowded and many of us were not even running at our usual pace instead we were kinda like jogged through it which leads to a lot of complaint from participants.

This time we have to stand in our respective pre-selected zone to start the run.

By doing this, it does some how solve the over crowded issue. We are all happily running, challenging our self to break our own run records, haha ! No more bumping into other participants during run.

Piglets Run Route

Total Distance Covered

Every runner who are able to complete the 21km run in qualifying time of 3 hours 30 minutes will be given a Finisher Tee, Finisher Medal, Towel and an e-Certificate.

The event site layout has also changed this year for the Penang Bridge Half Marathon.

In short, this year Penang Bridge Half Marathon is way much better compare to last year Penang Bridge International Marathon. The crowd are better managed and public transport are better handles especially at run site. Just a suggestion from us, piglets, if marathon are going to be held there every year, we feel that something must be done about all the mud and mud puddle at the event site, it gets really dirty when it rain, maybe growing some grass would do the trick, hehe !
