By : Chha

Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi or famously known as just Khoo Kongsi is one of the famous chinese clan house in Penang Island. Being listed as one of Penang Heritage site, the Khoo Kongsi has make it into our list of must visit place in Penang.

The history of the Khoo Kongsi clan goes way back to the 17th century were they are among the wealthy Straits Chinese traders in Malacca and early Penang. The forefathers of the Khoo family built this clan house for members of the Khoo family in 1851. It was burnt down in 1894 due to being struck by lightning. It was rebuild again in 1902 and the current existing Khoo Kongsi building was completed in 1906. It was last restored in year 2001.

To enter Khoo Kongsi you will need to pay for tickets.

Adults: RM 10/pax
Children (under 12yrs old): RM 1/pax
Children (under 5yrs old): FREE
* Prices include GST.

The design of the building is really nice especially the art work on the wall.

The main attraction is the clan temple. The housing area is not so interesting as they are just normal building with not much special design to see.

In front of the temple there is a hall.

And a kitchen at the side of the temple. The kitchen area is where all the old things are kept. Like cooking utensil, food containers and many more.

At the back of the temple, there is some empty space with partition which is now made into a mini museum show casing history and things from the Khoo clan.

We spend around 2 to 3 hours here in Khoo Kongsi taking our slow-sweet time walking around the area taking photos. The place is nice and well maintained, it is worth the money we pay (if you love local history, hahaha !)
