Well if you ask us about history, may it be the history of Malaysia itself or history of the world, we fail big time, haha ! But if you would like to know about our local Penang Peranakan or some would call the Babas And Nyonyas then visiting the Pinang Peranakan Mansion is right for you, haha ! Ok, here is something about the Pinang Peranakan Mansion that we are able to quote from the internet.
At the Pinang Peranakan Mansion, the typical home of a rich Baba of a century ago is recreated to offer a glimpse of their opulent lifestyle and of their many customs and traditions. With over 1,000 pieces of antiques and collectibles of the era on display, this Baba-Nyonya museum is also housed in one of Penang’s heritage mansion of eclectic design and architecture. Built at the end of the 19th century by one of local history’s famous personalities, the ‘Hai Kee Chan’ or Sea Remembrance Store had once served as the residence and office of Kapitan Cina Chung Keng Kwee. Though not a Baba himself, his Chinese courtyard house was much like a typical large Baba home of eclectic style, incorporating Chinese carved-wood panels and English floor tiles and Scottish ironworks. Having survived the many decades of neglect and decay, the mansion has now been restored to its former glory of a stately home. (Source : http://www.pinangperanakanmansion.com.my/#About_Us)
No no, we didn't write that, the level of history is too high for us, haha .. well if you want to read more about the Pinang Peranakan Mansion you can visit their link (http://www.pinangperanakanmansion.com.my/index.htm), we quote and we credits .. haha .. well we think that is the right way to do it rather than to quote and make it our own. Well anyway, now is our time to load you with a lot a lot of photos to show you why we think this Penang Peranakan Mansion is worth visiting.
Pinang Peranakan Mansion is not hard to find if you have the gps system to help you but it would be a problem if you don't have one. Firstly the place looks like an ordinary shop lots from outside and there is no big obvious signboard to say that it is the Pinang Peranakan Mansion. How we find it ? by using gps navigation. The Pinang Peranakan Mansion is a famous tourist place, so the gps system should have its location.
The Mansion is a two level building with few different section or should we say partitions, like the main hall, the kitchen, the dining area, the temple and the bedroom.
What attract us the most if the section where they keep gold and shoes. We spend the most time in there looking at the design of the shoes and admiring those golds, haha ..
The kitchen is a huge place and we wonder how many people do they have operating this kitchen ?
This is the old cupboard use for keeping traditional medication, like those in the old china-town type of movie ! haha ..
The second floor is dedicated for bedrooms.
The design of the mansion is nice, we spend around 2 to 3 hours in the place. Tour guide is also available but if you required dedicated tour guide to walk you through the history of the Peranakan Mansion then you will need to make early appointment in order for them to arrange a tour guide for you.
