Ssambap is a Korean Restaurant which is located in the Krystal Point building at Bayan Lepas, Penang. Well, Ssambap BBQ Korean Restaurant have been here for some time now, probably many of you have tried dining here or know about it.
So, here i am .. like finally after so long. Its my first time here and the moment i walk in to Ssambap Korean Restaurant, i can feel that i am actually walking in to a Korean Restaurant, as if i am dining in Korea, haha ! The decoration here is simple but nice !
Now, lets dig into the food. I totally have no idea on what to order, oh well, i let my friends do all the ordering, as always, my job is to just eat eat eat and more eating ... haha !
After making order, the first thing that come straight to our tables are all the small side dish. As usual, these are the first thing that i always get when dining at Korea Restaurant. Those tasty and complimentary sides are actually called 'banchan' which translates to 'side dishes'. They can be refill if you just can't get enough of those 'banchan' .. ! We order set meal which is able to serve up to 5~6 person and it cost RM220.00 per set. The set meal includes :
Samgyeopsal (Grilled Pork Belly)
Dwaeji Galbi (Marinated Grilled Pork Ribs)
Dak Bulgogi (Spicy Grilled Chicken Bulgogi)
Japchae (Glass Noodles With Sauteed Vegetables)
Kimchijeon (Kimchi Pancake)
Godeungeo Gui (Grilled Mackerel)
Haemul Jeongol (Seafood Casserole)
Tteokbokki (Stir-fried Rice Cake)
All the food from the set menu are tasty. I personally prefer the Tteokbokki, Kimchijeon, Dak Bulgogi and Dwaeji Galbi. The best for me is still the Japchae ! Tteokbokki is a little bit spicy but still good enough for me, not really till the extend where it will make me sweat, haha ! The Haemul Jeongol looks normal to me when it was served but there are so many seafood hidden inside the soup, haha .. when i stir it up, its like searching for treasure inside the sea, so many seafood .. !
Sundubu Jjigae (Spicy Soft Tofu Stew) RM 18.00
Kimchi Jjigae (Kimchi Stew) RM 18.00
Gun Mandu (Fried Dumplings) RM 20.00
Other than the set menu, if you would like to get more food, there is always the ala cart available. The set meal is just not enough for us so we decided to order more. I like the Sundubu Jjigae which come with rice, as a rice fan .. a bowl of rice is like a must for me, haha ! The Sundubu Jjigae is also a little bit spicy. The soup is tasty and it sip well into the tofu making the tofu taste good too. Gun Mandu is also another one of my favorite but the filling is not much, only a little amount of ingredient is wrap inside this fried dumplings but i like the crunchy layer outside. As a whole, Ssambap Korean Restaurant at Krystal Point, Penang is a nice place to dine, by the time i finish eating here, the place is full with people .. service is good too .. !
