Tips # 1 : The Siem Reap Itinerary

The best itinerary to travel Siem Reap is by following the Siem Reap Tour route. Regardless whether you are traveling as a backpacker or by taking private tour guide, these three major route is still consider as the best way to visit Siem Reap. The three tour are :

  1. Small Circuit Tour
  2. Big Circuit Tour
  3. Outside Circuit Tour
You can view the Suggested Tour Itinerary that private tour guide is offering, feel free to Contact Us For More Information about the private tour guide service.

Tips # 2 : Tickets For All Three Tour

To access the Angkor area of Siem Reap, every tourist will have to purchase tickets. The tickets is also divided into 3 types, which are :

  1. 1 day at 37.00 USD
  2. 3 days at 62.00 USD
  3. 7 days at 72.00 USD

So if you are doing all the three circuit tour, you will need to get the 3 days pass tickets. Recently, there are some good changes made to those ticket purchased. Now tourist can purchase a 3 days pass tickets and the tickets will be valid for one week while for the 7 days pass tickets will be valid for one month. Entering every temple is free with this tickets and the usage of public toilet is free too. There is security at every temple that you wish to enter at Angkor, Cambodia, you will need to show them your tickets before they allow you to enter. Except a few place which is in the 'Outside Circuit Tour' will need to buy separate ticket if you wish to visit. So keep the tickets safe at all time.

Tips # 3 : Tuk Tuk

The Tuk Tuk here is very different from those i have seen in Thailand. So if you would like to experience the local way of travel in Siem Reap, Cambodia try travel using a Tuk Tuk at least once. But if you are there during the cold season, my advice is, don't take Tuk Tuk if you want to go see sun rise at Angkor Wat. I did that and i almost freeze to death, hahaha !

Tips # 4 : Local Language, People and Food

Khmer is their local language and people here in Cambodia, even their local food is also call as Khmer Food, so if you would love to try their local food be sure to look for their Khmer Food.

Oh, my ! I start to miss Cambodia food already .. talking about food, Cambodia has a lot of nice food to try on especially their Vegetarian food. Good news to all vegetarian fans out there, follow my blog, facebook page or instagram and i will bring you all the vegetarian food you need, haha ! I know, especially travelling oversea you might have a lot of concern about the food there. How to get vegetarian food ? Is it expensive ? Is it far ? Well, i can't promise you that it is easy to find vegetarian food in all country that you are going to visit but with some effort and research, it is possible to get some decent vegetarian food.

Tips # 5 : Souvenirs

Almost outside of every temple there are people selling souvenirs but i am not sure if the items they sell are authentic or genuine. My advice is, be wise when you buy .. !

Tips # 6 : Temple Run

Remember my trip to Bagan, Myanmar ? Where all the Pagoda looks exactly the same and there are like thousand of them only in Bagan itself. Well, this is exactly the same for Siem Reap where all the Temple looks the same. I call it my Temple Run trip, running from one temple to another temple and they all look the same, old with big tress surrounding them. My first day of visiting the Temples here in Siem Reap was really amazing, i went 'WOW' like to almost every temple that i enter. the second day was like 'Hmm, ok' and i did feel jaded on the third day but luckily i did my 'Outside Circuit Tour' on my third day of visiting Siem Reap, with less Temple.

Tips # 7 : Beware Of Scam

Even before i go to Siem Reap, i heard a lot of bad experience from other people about how they were scam and many more bad stuff that happen during their trip here in Siem Reap. I was 110% caution, i step up my alert level, haha ! But then, something small still happen to me, nothing major, just some things that i don't feel happy about.

Beware of the 1.00 USD photo, that is what i call this .. ! This thing happen when I was busy taking photos in a Temple in Siem Reap, on of the local people there come to me and told me that there are few nice spot where i can take some really nice photo and insist that i should follow him there. So i did, thinking how friendly he is. One spot after another, he keep leading me further and further away from the crowd of tourist in the temple. Unaware about that, i end up being alone with him at some deserted area of the temple. He demanded some tips for his effort but i refuse to give because, taking photo is my effort, camera is mine and there is no photo print out of any kind from him. I try to walk away but he won't allow me and block the exit from where i was standing. To avoid trouble, i paid him 1 USD and walk off as quickly as i could.

Tips # 8 : Proper Attire to Visit Temples

When traveling, we wish to dress as comfortable as possible especially during the nice chill weather during my time of visit but all the temples here in Siem Reap requires anyone entering the temple to put on proper attire and to cover up themselves properly. Most of the temple that i see allow their lady visitor to use their scarf as skirt to cover up their legs if they are wearing short pants or short skirt but not for Angkor Wat especially if you want to enter Bakan area which is in Angkor Wat, the same goes to the guys too. My advice, wear a long pants and put on a proper T-Shirt, then you won't have problem accessing any temple in Siem Reap.

Tips # 9 : Cambodia Currency

Cambodia use Riel but USD is widely accepted there. I don't think there is any need for you to change your money to Riel because everywhere in Siem Reap, people are accepting USD. Maybe they might return your change in Riel but not often.

Tips # 10 : Language

Not many people here speak English but if you are at the main tourist spot, some of them can speak simple English.
