A Time to Give Christmas Charity Programme | Bringing Festive Joy To The Lives Of Children by G Hotel, Penang

Christmas is about giving and the best gift one could give children is by putting a smile on their faces. During the global coronavirus crisis, charities face difficulties and are struggling to deliver to those in need. Despite these trying times with the hospitality industry taking a big hit, G Hotel Penang knows that there is no better time than now to continue its annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative 'A Time To Give' charity programme. This initiative has put smiles on the faces of children, benefitted various homes and NGO’s since 2008.

This year, G Hotel has granted wishes to the children of The Salvation Army Home and opened the programme to the public by giving them the opportunity to do their bid. 28 children from the Salvation Army Home gave the hotel a Wishlist which were then written on individual wish cards. Each wish card included the name, age, gender and wishes of each child from the Home. All wish cards were hung on the Christmas tree in the lobby of G Hotel Gurney for the public to pick a wish card of their choice and purchase the gifts for the child from 27 November to 17 December 2020.

Most of the wishes from the children were daily necessities such as clothes, shoes, storybooks, toys and stationery sets. As soon as G Hotel put up the cards on the Christmas tree, G Hotel had an overwhelming response from the public and donors who donated and contributed to the program that each child got to take home 7 presents per person.

The distribution of the Christmas Gift were supposed to be held at G Hotel Gurney but due to the sudden change in SOP by the government, G Hotel had no alternative but to cancel the open event in the lobby and instead brought the presents over to the home, making it a closed event, this is done to keep every one healthy and safe while flattening the curve.

Nevertheless, 22 December 2020 was a memorable day filled with happiness as G Hotel brought the Christmas Spirit to The Salvation Army Home for the first time. The joyous day started with a speech by Mr. Michael Hanratty, General Manager of G Hotel. After which the children serenaded the home with Christmas carols and unwrapped the presents. The children were grinning from ear to ear and their faces were all lit up resembling the lights on a Christmas Tree seeing that their wishes came true. G Hotel also brought Roasted Chicken, Snack Platters and Christmas Cookies made by G Hotel’s executive chef so that the children can have a feast after that.

G Hotel are very grateful to all the donors and everyone from all walks of life for the great support in making this event successful each year. 'A Time to Give' has once again successfully touched the hearts of the public to give back to the community especially during these trying times by showing these children, they are never forgotten nor alone.
