During my recent visit to Sunway Carnival Mall in Seberang Jaya, I discovered that the experience became even more exciting with the grand opening of Shabu Yo, Japan’s largest Shabu Shabu restaurant chain, now officially opening its second outlet in Penang.
Located at the lower ground floor of Sunway Carnival Mall, Shabu Yo officially opened its doors on 23 June 2026 and this marks the brand’s eighth outlet in Malaysia. After the successful response from their Queensbay Mall outlet which opened in February 2025, the expansion to mainland Penang certainly shows how much Malaysians love authentic Japanese hot pot dining experiences.
Walking into the restaurant, the atmosphere immediately felt calm and welcoming. The spacious dining area was filled with the aroma of simmering broths, freshly sliced meats and endless trays of colourful vegetables moving around the dining hall. Shabu Yo carries the same modern Japanese dining concept that has made the brand so successful across Japan and internationally.
One of the biggest highlights at Shabu Yo is definitely their famous All You Can Eat dining experience. Starting from only RM 39.90++ per person, diners can enjoy unlimited servings of pork and chicken together with a wide variety of fresh vegetables, beverages, side dishes and desserts. For those who love variety and value for money, this promotion is truly worth checking out.
What impressed me most was the freshness of the ingredients. Shabu Yo prides itself on serving premium Australian Wagyu beef alongside carefully selected pork, chicken, lamb and seafood options. The meat slices were beautifully prepared and thinly sliced perfectly for quick cooking inside the hot broth. Every bite tasted tender, juicy and naturally sweet.
Apart from the meat selections, I personally enjoyed exploring the vegetable section. There was a colourful spread of fresh crunchy vegetables, mushrooms, leafy greens, tofu and noodles available for unlimited refills. Everything looked fresh and well maintained which made the dining experience even more enjoyable.
Another fun part of dining at Shabu Yo is definitely the extensive sauce bar. Guests can create their own personalised dipping sauces using around 30 different condiments and flavour combinations. From spicy and savoury to creamy and tangy, the combinations felt endless. I spent quite some time experimenting with different mixes and each sauce completely changed the flavour profile of the meal. So go and be creative at their sauce bar !
Besides the hot pot ingredients, diners can also enjoy side dishes including crispy fried karaage and takoyaki. These side dishes paired surprisingly well with the hot bubbling broth and added more variety to the overall dining experience. There are also other add on as sides to the hot pot like Braised Pork Rice, Fluffy Omurice and more !
