Inle Lake @ Nyaung Shwe Township, Myanmar [ Burma ]

By : Chha

Inle Lake is a freshwater lake located in the Nyaung Shwe Township of Shan State as part of Shan Hills in Myanmar or formally know as Burma. It is the second largest lake in Myanmar with an estimated surface area of 116 km square and also one of the highest at an elevation of 880 m. During the dry season, the average water depth is around 2.1 m with the deepest point being 3.7 m but during the rainy season this can increase by 1.5 m. (Source)

For me, personally i love visiting Inle Lake. The weather here is not that hot compare to Yangon, probably because Inle Lake is higher up north. The environment here is cleaner compare to the dusty Bagan and life of the people here are more laid-back and less hectic making it really nice visiting here.

There is nothing much to do at Inle Lake, it is a place to relax and unwind You can also choose to go for a day of boat trip on Inle Lake or a day of cycling trip around Inle Lake, haha !

If you have some extra time to kill, you can also cycle around Nyaung Shwe town or walk if you wish as Nyaung Shwe is just a small town. As you walk around, you will discover some cafe, shops and some mini pagoda. Nyaung Shwe is the main access point for Inle Lake. Located at the north end of the lake. Nyaung Shwe town was once the capital of an important Shan kingdom. These days Nyaung Shwe has become a bustling traveler centre with many guesthouses and hotels, an increasing number of restaurants, a few bars and a pleasantly relaxed vibe. If Myanmar can be said to have a backpacker scene at all, it can be found here at Nyaung Shwe. (Source)

As i continue walking, exploring Nyaung Shwe town, i come across a temple so i went in to have a look. The temple is so peaceful and calm ..

It is just a small temple in Nyaung Shwe town. I only take half day of walking around Nyaung Shwe town, the other half i spend it on cycling, haha ! Nyaung Shwe is a small town with not much to do but if you enjoy peace and laid-back kind of travel, then here is the place to be.
