Gala House Restaurant & Cafe @ Lebuh Muntri, Penang

By : Chha

*thanks to Gala House for extending the invitation.

Gala House has been operating here at Lebuh Muntri for many years now. I visited Gala House once just days after when they first open, tried their Red Velvet Cake back then and has been missing it every since. Recently i had the chance to go back to Gala House again, this time to try out some of their famous food and also some new addition to their menu.

Surprise, surprise .. Gala House used to be a one-shop-lot size Cafe but now expended their business into two-shop-lot, where one is for you to enjoy your meal in a more family like setting while the other is a modern bar for you to enjoy your drinks, i find this combination kinda awesome .. after my meal, i can just walk over to the bar for my second round without changing location, haha .. !

Gala House is a two-story building with few tables on the ground floor and more on the 1st floor which will be open soon. It is comfortable inside Gala House and the place look old school, i like it here because of how this place is organize and at the same time preserve the old classic look of the shops here. The entire setting makes me feels like as if i am back to the 70's.

Smoked Duck Spaghetti RM 25.00

Gala House is creating a mixture of Western Fusion for their food here by bringing in Western Food and adding in their local touch to it. This plate of Smoked Duck Spaghetti is served with Smoked Duck of course, as the name says it all, haha ! Some Spinach and Shiitake Mushroom. This spaghetti may look a little bit like Aglio Olio but it is less oily and the Smoked Duck taste good.

Creamy Chicken RM 28.00

I like everything about this plate of Creamy Chicken from the texture of the Chicken which is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside to the gravy that is covering the Mashed Potato underneath it. I love the Mashed Potato, Gala House put a lot of the Mashed Potato underneath the Chicken and the Mashed Potato is sweet, i love it !

Cheddar Ranch RM 28.00

By mixing up the menu with burgers, Gala House is serving variety of tasty food to their customer. This Cheddar Ranch burger is huge and full of ingredients inside it. There is Gala House homemade chicken patty, shiitake mushroom, spinach, smoked duck and teriyaki sauce. There is something about the Chicken Meat here in Gala House that makes me love them a lot ! Every dish which is serve with Chicken Meat is soft and juicy. The cheese and egg goes really well with the Homemade Chicken Patty. Gala House finish up this plate of burger with some fries and salad at the side.

Crab Stuffed Seabass RM 36.00

The properly crafted food and the way how Gala House presented their food here makes me feels like as I am in a 5 stars fine dining restaurant .. You can see from this Crab Stuffed Seabass, the way they arrange the crab meat, shrimp, sautéed vegetables and some miso sauce on it.

Kimchi Salmon Spaghetti RM 25.00

Kimchi Salmon Spaghetti in my opinion is one of Gala House must try food. I don’t know about others but I am a fan of Salmon, so this plate of Kimchi Salmon Spaghetti does get my attention. The taste of the Kimchi is very appetizing and not too spicy which is perfect for me. The big chunk of Salmon is perfectly cooked, not too raw and not too dry. I love this ..

Clams In Wine and Fresh Herbs Broth RM 18.00

If you love seafood, this bowl of Clams In Wine and Fresh Herbs Broth will definitely do the trick. Cooked with Sauvignon Blanc, cilantro, red chilies and tomato, it also comes with two slice of garlic bread. I still don’t understand how can the Clams mix with bread ? Well, probably, I might need to order soup ? No worry, Gala House got you covered with their tasty Roasted Tomato and Basil Soup.

Roasted Tomato and Basil Soup RM 16.00

The Roasted Tomato and Basil Soup is really concentrated with fresh tomatoes, sweet Basil, oregano, thyme and chicken broth. I can tell that they use a lot of tomato in making this bowl of Soup. Gala House make their own ingredient and they don’t use frozen food or anything that come from the can, all ingredients are fresh and they buy it in small quantity so that they don’t have to keep the ingredient overnight ..

French Onion Soup RM 18.00

If eating Beef is not a problem for you, then I think this is a must try soup at Gala House. French Onion Soup is not very creamy but it taste good. There is some cheese inside which is so hard to pull it off, just like those pizza with overloaded cheese on it, haha ! There are also Beef broth, bay leaf and some white wine. The taste of the Beef broth is so concentrated in the soup that every sip of it is flavorful. From what I understand, Gala House actually take half day to prefer the soup, in order to bring out the strong nice taste of the Beef in the soup, nice !!

Strawberry Margarita RM 26.00

Mojito RM 28.00

Even if you are full after a meal and just want to drop by Gala House for a cup of drink and have a long talk with friend or family. Gala House is a lovely place to do so. You can order a glass of Strawberry Margarita or even a Mojito to refresh yourself.

Orang Kaya Coffee RM 22.00

The Orang Kaya Coffee is my personal favorite. The taste of the coffee is really strong and is really thick ! It is a combination of rich chocolate and coffee, i can also taste there is some alcohol in it too. Love this .. !

Dalmatian 101 RM 16.90

If the Orang Kaya Coffee is too strong for you and you would prefer something without alcohol then Gala House is ready to serve you their Dalmatian 101 drinks, it has more chocolate taste in it and is more mild compare to Orang Kaya Coffee but for me, I still prefer Orang Kaya Coffee ..
