Tech Dome Penang is an initiative by the Penang State Government to create a hub for technology learning and exchange of ideas. It will be a vehicle for improving scientific literacy and technology ability in Malaysia. Tech Dome is a science discovery centre in Penang.
This huge Geodesic Dome at Komtar, Penang used to be a huge hall that held a lot of events from big to small. It is now being converted into Tech Dome with multiple sections that features everything on technology and science.
Here in Tech Dome you will discover the exciting world of technology and how they work by exploring the world class exhibits in its galleries. Regular programs will be conducted for schools, colleges and families that are specially designed to cultivate the spirit of inquiry and teach children and teenagers the skills required to thrive in a high tech, knowledge based future.
Tech Dome is unlike any other Tech Centre. Tech Dome does not only allow you to read about technology but they also let you experience first hand how it actually works. With interactive panels, science items that you can hold and visual that you can see, will actually make your learning more effective.
To make things even more interesting, there are many games that you can play, games that are made base on science theory like the Snake Pendulum, Spinning Water, Pirouette and lots more.
Many of the games here are family friendly, kids can play with their parents or even kids among kids. Technology and Science are not only for children, those available at Tech Dome may serve as a refreshment course for adults too.
While for adults, you may challenge yourself to a more extreme science game, like the G-Force, G-Drop and Speed Climb. These games are also perfectly face for elder kids who has the courage to take up the challenge.
At Tech Dome, they also have an Exploration Zone for younger kids to play while they learn about science. Next to the Exploration Zone is a small cafe, just in case you gets hungry when visiting Tech Dome.
Other than the featured over 150 interactive scientific and technology exhibits, from time to time, Tech Dome also hold some interesting programs that you may join. The PIXO Observatory is the one that really interest time. This is the time where i can get up close and personal with all the stars in the universe and to understand our sun, moon and neighboring planets more.
PIXO is the astronomy observatory at Tech Dome Penang. It houses the most powerful telescope in Penang which is known as the Officina Stellare Pro RC 400 which is a reflecting type with a 16" diameter primary mirror. Another telescope available at PIXO is the Lunt 152mm Solar Telescope, the largest commercially available telescope purely to observe the Sun. So if you have not seen how the sun looks like, then this will be the best place to do so.
PIXO is also a focal meeting point of the Astronomical Society of Penang. Visitors will learn about the mysteries of the stars and galaxies from esteemed astronomers, old and young alike. Visiting the Tech Dome widen my knowledge on many new technology and science at the same time refresh some of my memories on these technology and science that i has long forgotten. Tech Dome is an interesting place.
