Place To Visit | Yangon @ Myanmar [ Burma ]

By : Chha

Yangon or formerly known as Rangoon is the largest city in Myanmar which is also formerly known as Burma. A mix of British colonial architecture, modern high-rises and gilded Buddhist pagodas define its skyline. Yangon is a nice place to visit for my opinion but the only thing that i don't like is the traffic. The traffic condition in Yangon is really bad, there is traffic congestion everywhere in the city of Yangon. Yangon used to be the capital of Myanmar and the capital of Yangon Region. Yangon is the country largest city with a population above seven million and is the most important commercial center although the military government officially relocated the capital to the newly built city of Naypyidaw in March 2006. Yangon | Where To Visit :
  • Shwedagon Pagoda

I can say that Shwedagon Pagoda is the most famous Pagoda among tourist in Yangon. When ever i talk about visiting Yangon, the first place that people tell me to visit is Shwedagon Pagoda. So i did, make this as my number one must go place in Yangon.

Shwedagon Pagoda is also known as the Great Dagon Pagoda and the Golden Pagoda. The 99 metres tall pagoda is situated on Singuttara Hill to the west of Kandawgyi Lake and dominates the Yangon skyline. Shwedagon Pagoda is the most sacred Buddhist pagoda in Myanmar, as it is believed to contain relics of the four previous Buddhas of the present kalpa. These relics include the staff of Kakusandha, the water filter of Koṇāgamana, a piece of the robe of Kassapa, and eight strands of hair from the head of Gautama. (Source)

As Yangon's weather is hot most of the time, it is my advice that you make Shwedagon Pagoda your first place to visit early in the morning. The reason is to escape the hot sun burning your face and your feet, haha ! To enter Shwedagon Pagoda you will need to remove your shoes and keep it at a designated shoes keeping area for tourist.

The designated shoes keeping area for tourist will have someone to look after your shoes for you and after visiting they will give you a wet tissue to clean your feet. They will request for some tips and the amount is depending on how much you wish to give them.

  • Bogyoke Aung San Market

Formerly known as Scott's Market, Bogyoke Aung San Market is a major bazaar located in Pabedan township in central Yangon, Myanmar. Known for its colonial architecture and inner cobblestone streets, the market is a major tourist destination, dominated by antique, Burmese handicraft and jewellery shops, art galleries and clothing stores. The market also has a number of stores for local shoppers, selling medicine, foodstuffs, garments and foreign goods. (Source)

I like taking a walk here at Bogyoke Aung San Market, there are so many things to see and so many things to buy. The main thing that i always look for when come to market like this is their local food, haha !

Shwe Yin Aye Ks 1000

Shwe Yin Aye is actually our local Malaysia cendol dessert. Shwe Yin Aye here in Myanmar is slightly different where they add Mont Let Saung, Sago (Tapioca), Coconut Milk Jelly, Steamed Sticky Rice, Coconut milk, Sugar, Bread, Tinned evaporated milk and Ice. The taste is actually way much tastier that those Cendol i have back home, haha !

Avocado Juice Ks 1500

I never try a Avocado Juice before and my first-try-impression was really awesome, the juice is so thick that you can tell they put the whole Avocado into the blender to make this cup of Avocado Juice instead of just to use few slice and add a lot of water. I like the taste as well. A cup of Avocado Juice like this is worth the Ks 1500 i pay for.

Directly opposite Bogyoke Aung San Market, there is a newly open shopping mall if you are interested to shop there, you can easily take the overpass to cross the busy street directly into the shopping mall.
