[4D3N] : Day 2 - Angkor Wat @ Siem Reap, Cambodia

By : Chha

The Amazing Angkor Wat ! Would you just look at the Sunrise here in front of Angkor Wat ? Well, I was a little disappointed because of the cloudy sky i was not able to see the best of Angkor Wat Sunrise view but even though it is cloudy, the view still look amazing .. ! I wonder how it would look like if it was a bright clear sky on that day of my visit. I woke up early in the morning at about 4.00 am and have to leave for Angkor Wat at 5.00 am to catch the sunrise at about 6.00 am to 6.45 am in the morning but the reason why i need to get there early is because tourist from all around Siem Reap will be here for the Angkor Wat sunrise as well, haha ! Ya, i know i am exaggerating but by the time i reach there at about 5.30 am, the place is already full with tourist from all around the world, though the place is still pitch black dark .. ! It suddenly makes me feel like its an international gathering or something, haha !

Angkor Wat [Khmer: អង្គរវត្ត] or also known as the 'Capital Temple' is the largest religious monument in the world located at Siem Reap, Cambodia. It was originally constructed as a Hindu temple of god Vishnu for the Khmer Empire then gradually transforming into a Buddhist temple towards the end of the 12th century. Angkor Wat has become a symbol of Cambodia appearing on its national flag and it is the country's prime attraction for visitors (Source).

Angkor Wat is so famous that i just have to write a entire post dedicated just for Angkor Wat itself. No doubt that Angkor Wat is the MUST visit place in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Well, visiting Angkor Wat is the main and only reason why i am here.

Angkor Wat is a huge place and is divided into many different sections with unique architecture.

Inside of Angkor Wat there is this place call Bakan. Bakan is the name of what used to be the principal sanctuary of Angkor Wat. It is the summit of Angkor Wat’s central temple, the highest of temple’s three galleries and the uppermost point of world’s largest religious complex (Source).

From my understanding, only a certain amount of people are allowed to climb up and enter Bakan at a time. Therefore, i have to wait for about 45 minutes standing in line for my turn to go up to Bakan. Entering Bakan are a series of steep steps that i need to climb up to but once up there you can have a good view out from Angkor Wat to its surrounding.

Entering Bakan has very strict rules applied. One of the rules which i think is important for me to share is 'dress code'. Everyone must fully cover themselves up with proper clothing. I saw many ladies wear short skirt there but they cover up their short skirt with a long scarf or shawl just to make their skirt looks long, that is NOT ALLOWED too .. I saw many ladies doing that and was not allowed to enter Bakan. Some temple allow that but not Bakan. To be safe, wear a long pants.
