Malaysians, wait no further because it's time to restart culture again! After a vibrant and intense programme in Kuala Lumpur, the 20' edition of Le French Film Festival (LFFF22) has finally reached Penang, for everyone to immerse in many stirring French activities, which will be held from June 30 to July 10 in Penang, and until July 17 in Johor Bahru and Kota Kinabalu.

Organised by Alliance Française de Kuala Lumpur, Alliance Française de Penang and the Embassy of France in Malaysia, festival-goers from all walks of life will have the opportunity to bring all five of their senses on a French adventure like no other! This year's festival features a variety of programmes that will excite cinephiles, music and gastronomy enthusiasts thanks to the array of award-winning French films, gastronomy offerings, fun workshops and more.




On the opening ceremony, Haryany Binti Mohamad, President of Alliance Française de Penang expressed her thrill to bring the excitement of the French Film Festival back into Malaysians' social calendar where we can all immerse ourselves in activities including visual and performing arts, music, gastronomy, and the latest trends and entertainment from France including in Penang:

  • The largest Film Festival in Malaysia with 21 of the latest award-winning French films (with English subtitles), featuring the movie "Aline", a hilarious and touching biopic on world-famous singer Céline Dion, played and directed by French stand-up comedian Valérie Lemercier
  • An Electro Acoustic Latin Jazzy House Performance brought by No Black Tie - an energetic trio who will bring back to life old school jazz funk disco
  • Gastronomy-related workshops and events as the Popping Champagne tasting at Eastern & Oriental Hotel
  • The French Heritage Trail in partnership with the Penang Tourist Guides Association
  • A brand new programme most notably designed for kids with Le Petit Festival
  • "Le Corbusier Maquettes: The representation of modern architecture" and "The Great Story of the Infinite Drawing" - 2 exclusive exhibitions organised in conjunction with the George Town Festival which will inspire you with their outstanding aesthetics and prime production






The 2022 edition of the Festival presents a range of activities for everyone and many events will be held in some of the most beloved sites in Penang. "You will have a plethora of choices to enjoy our culture through a concert, exhibitions, a walking tour through the centre of George Town and gastronomic activities that will be held until mid-July", said Emmanuelle Marchand, Counselor for cooperation and cultural affairs at the Embassy of France.

You will have plenty of choices to delve into and enjoy the culture France has to offer here in Penang. I am sure that everyone from all walk of age will be able to find something that piques their interest", said YB CHONG Eng, Penang State Executive Councillor For Social Development and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs.
