Food lovers, rejoice! The chefs at Makan Kitchen have outdone themselves this year with a series of festive feasts. On Christmas Eve, indulge in delights like Crusty Fish Terrine with Lemon Emulsion and Slow Roasted House Marinade Turkey. Christmas Day brings more culinary magic with dishes like Shrimp Mousse and Dill Caviar Vol au Vent and Brined Roast Whole Turkey. And don’t forget the decadent desserts like the White Chocolate Cinnamon Profiterole Tower !

To make things interesting the Chefs at Makan Kitchen also thrown in some small bites food and seafood for everyone to enjoy.

Walking into Makan Kitchen felt like stepping into a vibrant food market, with beautifully arranged displays of main courses, seafood, small bites, desserts, and fruits. Each section promised a unique adventure for the palate and I was eager to dive in.

The mains were a showcase of culinary finesse and diverse flavors. Guest can find food like Stir Fry Chicken with Ginger and Scallion, Honey Roasted Pumpkin with Almond Flakes, Crabby Mac and Cheese, Chili Mud Crab, Sweet and Sour Clam, Kam Heong Prawn, Mughlai Chicken Korma, Braised Lamb with Mushroom and Radish, Biryani Pulao and more. The Stir Fry Chicken with Ginger and Scallion is made from Tender chicken pieces perfectly balanced with the subtle heat of ginger and the mild sharpness of scallions. This dish was a comforting classic. While the Honey Roasted Pumpkin with Almond Flakes is Sweet, caramelized pumpkin with a delightful crunch from almond flakes. For Crabby Mac and Cheese it is creamy, cheesy, and packed with the sweet umami of crab. This dish was indulgence at its best. Chili Mud Crab is definitely a highlight of the spread, the crabs were fresh, and the chili sauce had just the right amount of heat to complement the natural sweetness of the seafood. Kam Heong Prawn add some local touch to the buffet spread with aromatic and flavorful, this Malaysian favorite was executed to perfection. Braised Lamb with Mushroom and Radish its melt-in-your-mouth lamb in a rich, earthy sauce that left me wanting more.

If the food from Mains section is not enough, DoubleTree Resort also prepare some side dishes for everyone to enjoy which featured delightful surprises like Murtabak that goes well with Dalcha where both is bursting with spice and flavor. The pizzas is also something added to give diners more choice to choose from. There are the Classic Chicken and Mushroom, and Mediterranean Pizza, this add fun international twist to the meal. One mouth full small bites food especially the sushi, offered a light, refreshing change of pace. Each piece was meticulously crafted, with fresh ingredients and balanced flavors.

The carving station was another standout, with the Baked Whole Chicken Percik and Rosemary and Garlic Studded Lamb stealing the show. Juicy, flavorful and cooked to perfection, these dishes were an absolute treat. 

With all the heavy mains and side dish, lets tune it down a little with some greens and hot soup to calm the tummy. The Creamy Potato and Leek Soup was rich, velvety and comforting, while the Sup Ayam Rempah provided a burst of Malaysian spices in every spoonful. The smoked chicken salad, paired with mushrooms and olives, offered a refreshing and tangy complement to the heavier dishes.

If you are someone who want some action, DoubleTree Resort also set up a few stalls that cook your food as per order right in front of you. Guest can choose to order Pasta or Penang local's favorite the Char Koay Teow.

The dessert section was nothing short of a paradise for those with sweet tooths. The Crispy Pineapple Almond Filo was an elegant combination of crunch and sweetness. Traditional Malaysia favorites like Pengat Pisang and Assorted Nyonya Kuih stood out for their authentic flavors. Meanwhile, the Apple Bread and Butter Pudding added a homey touch, rounding off the meal on a high note.

An array of freshly cut fruits provided a light, refreshing end to the meal. Paired with the selection of beverages, it was the perfect way to cleanse the palate.

Set in the heart of the resort, Makan Kitchen’s warm, inviting environment made the experience all more enjoyable. The restaurant caters to all dining needs, whether it’s a leisurely breakfast, a hearty lunch or a luxurious dinner.

Every dish I tried reflected a commitment to quality and authenticity. Whether you are here for the seafood, the desserts or the traditional Malay dishes, you’re in for a treat.
