G Hotel rolled out the red carpet for its most anticipated event of the year, the “Cinematic Character Night” staff party, held at the Grand Ballroom. Themed around the magic of the movies, the event brought together team members from both G Hotel Gurney and G Hotel Kelawai for an unforgettable evening filled with creativity, laughter, and recognition.
The ballroom was transformed into a movie-inspired wonderland, where staff arrived, dressed as their favourite on-screen characters, from daring superheroes and classic villains to beloved fantasy icons and Hollywood stars.
The evening commenced with a heartfelt welcome speech by General Manager Mr. Michael Hanratty, who expressed his sincere appreciation to the entire team for their unwavering dedication and teamwork that contributed to G Hotel’s achievements throughout the year. His words of gratitude set an inspiring tone for the night, celebrating the people who make G Hotel’s success possible – its staff. “In today’s dynamic hospitality landscape, every challenge presents not just change, but opportunity.” said Mr. Michael Hanratty, General Manager of G Hotel. “Our greatest strength lies in our people – their passion, teamwork, and dedication continually elevate our standards and uphold G Hotel’s reputation for excellence in the hospitality industry”
Staff were treated to an indulgent international buffet, featuring a delectable spread that spanned from Western favourites to Japanese delights and local Malaysian classics. The menu included creamy mac and cheese, succulent grilled lamb, fragrant fried rice, chicken meatballs with mashed potatoes, fresh sushi, and an array of exquisite desserts all complemented by free-flowing beer throughout the evening. Adding a heartfelt touch to the celebration, the Owners and Heads of Departments (HODs) personally served food to their team members a symbolic gesture of gratitude and humility that perfectly embodied the spirit of unity, appreciation, and camaraderie that defines G Hotel’s culture.
The entertainment segment was a showstopper, with electrifying performances lighting up the night. Teams from the Food & Beverage Department, Housekeeping, Front Office, and Reservation departments captivated the audience with their creativity and energy. The crowd was blown away by a mesmerizing “Wednesday” dance inspired by the Netflix series, followed by a thrilling James Bond: Agent 007 routine that had everyone cheering. To top it off, a high-energy fusion of traditional Indian dance in the spirit of Deepavali, with a modern twist, kept the audience on their feet and buzzing with excitement.
One of the highlights of the evening was the Long Service Awards, honouring employees who have demonstrated years of excellence, loyalty, and commitment to the G Hotel family. The 5 Years Long Service Award recipients were Joanne Na Phaik Yin, Assistant Director of Sales & Marketing, and Grace Ooi Kah Siew, Reservation Manager.
The 10 Years Long Service Award celebrated eighteen devoted team members across multiple departments, including Tinesh Raman, F&B Outlet Manager; Krishnan Kuppusamy, Security & Safety Officer; Preveena Santhirasegaran, Front Office Supervisor; Kumar Jayagoby, F&B Operation Manager; Thanabalan Rajakumaran, Duty Engineer; Lee Chong Chee, Plumber; Mohamad Rasul Bin Baharon, Store Executive; Low Khar Hoon, General Cashier; Mohd Rizal Bin Mohamad Isa, Concierge Services Associate; Lim Hock Chye, Painter/Varnisher; G R Magantren Ramakrishnan, Security & Safety Officer; Sandran K Muthala, Housekeeping Supervisor; Azri Izham Bin Amzah, Stewarding Supervisor; Haslina Binti Ghazalli, F&B Assistant Outlet Manager; Mohd Sabrie Bin Sabharan, F&B Supervisor; Jasper Gan Zavon, Assistant Outlet Manager; and Tuan Muhd Redzuan Bin Tuan Kamaluddin, Technician 1 - each recognized for a decade of loyal service.
The 15 Years Long Service Award honoured Rajeswary Muniandy, Assistant Security & Safety Manager, for her exceptional leadership and dedication. Meanwhile, the milestone 20 Years Long Service Award was presented to Lim Bak Lee, Purchasing Manager, in recognition of two decades of outstanding commitment and contribution. Each awardee received commemorative trophies, certificates, and tokens of appreciation to mark their remarkable milestones.
The Costume Competition brought another wave of excitement as the ballroom came alive with cinematic flair. Nor Azlina from Food & Beverage stole the show, winning Best Female Costume with her jaw-dropping “Annabelle in a Box” ensemble, while Muhammad Shazrul Hisham, also from Food & Beverage, wowed everyone with his creative portrayal of Po from Kung Fu Panda, earning him Best Male Costume. Both winners walked away with exclusive RM 250 cash to raucous applause.
The energy soared even higher when The Silver Shadows, representing the Food & Beverage Department, were crowned champions of the Best Performance Award, winning a RM1,500 cash voucher and sparking a wave of celebration across the ballroom.
The excitement continued to build during the Grand Lucky Draw, featuring an incredible lineup of prizes that had everyone on the edge of their seats. Staff eagerly awaited their names to be called as rewards such as an iPhone 17 Pro 512GB, an SM Sport 110E Motorbike, two luxurious tour packages with flights, breakfast, and cash vouchers, along with a Dyson Vacuum Cleaner, Dell Laptop, Smart TV, Michael Kors Bag, and two Apple iPads were given away.
Each winner was met with thunderous applause as cheers filled the room. The ballroom erupted with excitement when the grand prize winners were announced, marking a perfect finale to an evening of joy and appreciation.
The celebration concluded with a lively DJ rave, where staff filled the dance floor, celebrating their achievements and camaraderie late into the night. The “Cinematic Character Night” was more than just a party, it was a heartfelt tribute to the dedicated individuals who embody the G Hotel spirit every day. This annual event once again highlighted G Hotel’s commitment to recognizing and celebrating its team. Through creativity, teamwork, and passion, the evening showcased the vibrant workplace culture that continues to make G Hotel one of Penang’s leading hospitality icons.
