Kebaya Dining Room Restaurant @ Seven Terraces, Penang

By : Chha

Fancy dining in class ? Love the Tradition Peranakan food with a modern twist to it ? At Kebaya Dining Room Restaurant they are serving some of the best indochinese and peranakan fares you can find in Penang.

A new approach to classic Straits and Indo-Chinese cuisine, Kebaya offers its menu divided into three parts, aptly named To Begin, Main Course (Protein / Greens) and Dessert. House cocktails and a wide range selection of wines from the all over the world pairs nyonya food impeccably to such as white wine, rose or pinot noir. (Source)

Serving dishes are suggestively served in a traditional Chinese course of 4, however, add-ons are available. The variation of dishes and amazing flavours trigger diners to add-on to enjoy local and organic scrumptious taste. (Source)

By looking at their menu there are not much choice of food to choose from for each course. The food serving size here is really big and they serve set menu only. Minimum order of one person per set. Menu items contain eggs, soy sauce, nuts, dairy, gluten, pork lard or seafood.

I am not a big eater, so obviously i was struggling to finish up all the food serve here, not to say that i don't like it but it is because the size is so huge ! haha .. !

Pandan Creme Brulee
(Egg custard spiked with pandan essence and served with brandy snaps)

This Pandan Creme Brulee is so special, this is the first time i ate a Creme Brulee with Pandan taste, haha ! I like the top layer of the Creme Brulee, has always been a fan of that particular layer of Creme Brulee where the chef would burn the sugar and make it crunchy, haha ! Nice .. !!

King Of The Fruit Creme Caramel Cake
(Durian spiked Creme Caramel baked with a layer of Crispy Walnut Dacquoise and Hainanese Coffee Foam)

So many special and unique food are serve here, i like this King Of The Fruit Creme Caramel Cake too .. the taste of the durian is not really strong and it does not cover up the taste of the caramel making it good to eat.

Otak-Otak
(Red snapper cooked with garlic and turmeric and baked in a crispy pastry)

This is unusual, the first thing that comes to my mind when i see Otak-Otak from their menu is the grilled fish cake made of ground fish meat mixed with tapioca starch and spices but it surprise me when the Otak-Otak at Kebaya Dining Room Restaurant is served, very different but it taste very similar like Otak-Otak. Special !

Lor Ark
(Duck confit with caramelised spiced plums and oranges in cinnamon, star anisee, cloves and nutmeg)

Grilled Chicken Kapitan
(With a paste of chilli, garlic, shallots and candle nuts)

The Grilled Chicken Kapitan is too spicy for me .. i feel it would be perfect for spicy food lover.

Crispy Nyonya Tempura
(Deep fried selection of vegetables in a delicate batter dusted with homemade belachan chilli seasoning)

Cher chai
(Sauteed market fresh selection of greens)

Pork Man Tou
(Sous vide soy pork and pickled vegetables in homemade mini man tou buns)

Food here at Kebaya Dining Room Restaurant is tasty, i love it and their service is good too. Reservation is required if you wish to dine here and there are only two session available :

Session 1 - 6.00 pm
Session 2 - 8.00 pm

It is also recommended that you follow the time for the session that you book which i feel is kinda rush for me. I love taking photos and eat slowly to enjoy the food and environment. 2 hours is just not enough for me. With these good food, nice environment and good service, i wish to have more time dining here, instead of just 2 hours following the session given.
