Located along Cantonment Road, Markus Restaurant can be easily spotted as it is facing the busy Cantonment Road. Being a two-storey restaurant, Markus Restaurant has plenty of comfortable seating place for their guest to dine in with nice and comfortable environment.
Entering Markus Restaurant is like walking in to a fine dining restaurant where every details is being carefully taken care of, from the table setting, cutlery arrangement to their professional service.
Markus Restaurant takes proper care on the quality of their wine. As there are over 100 different types of wine available here at Markus Restaurant, they have a dedicated area with proper temperature control to make sure that their wine is well kept and to preserve the quality so that they are able to serve only the best wine to their guest.
Unlike many Italian restaurant here in Penang, the food served at Markus Restaurant is unique and very different from those you may find else where in Penang. Those items listed in their menu may be something that you can find easily in Italy but it is uncommon to be found in Penang Italian Restaurant.
Bread Basket
Guest here can have the freedom to customize their own three-course meal by kicking off their meal with an appetizer, following with the Mains and to wrap it up with a dessert. To kick off the appetizer, here at Markus Restaurant there is the Bread Basket to choose from which is consisting of Homemade Foccacia Bread and Homemade Gluten Free Bread, these bread are served with Balsamic Vinegar and Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
Roast Beef
While for the Mains there are dish like the Roast Beef which is topped with Tuna Sauce, Borlotti Beans and Freshly Shaved Italian Black Truffles. If you are a fans of Beef, then this plate of Roast Beef will definitely do the trick for you.
Pan fry Hokkaido Scallops
While for Seafood lovers, the Pan fry Hokkaido Scallops is also available at Markus Restaurant. The Pan fry Hokkaido Scallops is served with Spinach and Truffle Emulsion. The Scallops is fresh and well cooked, it is not too hard. The scallops goes really well with the Spinach which is soft but not soggy, making it a tasty combination.
Lobster Bisque
Lobster Bisque is also a must try bowl of soup here at Markus Restaurant. The serving size of the Lobster Bisque is enough for one person and it is served with Fines Herbes, Lobster Tail and Milk Foam making it very flavorful. This bowl of Lobster Bisque is carefully crafted to give you the feeling and taste of eating a Lobster and yet still serve the purpose of a soup where it comfort the tummy with every sip.
Pounded Pork Tenderloin
You may order the Pounded Pork Tenderloin too if you wish to try out their dish with Pork. The Pounded Pork Tenderloin is topped with Sage, the authentic Parma Ham and served with Mash Potatoes and some freshly shaved black truffle on top.
Cheese Wheel Pasta
To make things even more interesting, if you order Markus Restaurant's Cheese Wheel Pasta, you will also get the chance to see how the Chef prepare the pasta right in front of you.
The Chef will bring out the entire wheel of cheese and start cutting them into smaller pieces and burning the cheese to bring out the burnt flavor of the cheese which is rather special and tasty before putting in the paste and mixing them together.
This special plate of Cheese Wheel Pasta is served with Homemade Truffle Infused Pasta, Crispy Parma Ham which is an Authentic Prosciutto di Parma Ham and Crushed Pistachio Nuts. With all these being prepared right in front of their guest, this will give you a visual, taste and smell experience that will make you crave for more of their Cheese Wheel Pasta !
Foie Gras and Eel Risotto
Foie Gras and Eel Risotto is the Penang version for rice ! Being originated from Italy, Markus Restaurant add in some of their own twist and taste to modernize this simple dish and make eating Risotto interesting. The Risotto is perfectly cooked, it is not to hard and not too soft. The Foie Gras and Eel complement each other very well and not over-empowering each other's taste making this plate of Risotto tasty.
Smoked Duck Breast
This plate of Smoked Duck Breast comes with Potato Quenelle and is covered with Berry Sauce. The Smoked Duck Breast is soft and not chewy while the Berry Sauce taste is making the entire plate of Smoked Duck Breast appetizing.
Gnocchi
This plate of Pasta looking Gnocchi is actually a homemade potato dumpling cooked with Tomato Sauce and authentic Italian Buffalo Mozzarella cheese. The Gnocchi is not something common that can be found in Penang and it is awesome that Markus Restaurant is serving it. The taste is slightly different from what is found in Italy, the mixture of Tomato and Cheese makes the sour taste from the Tomato well balance off with the Cheese, it is made to suits the taste of Penangites.
Limoncello Souffle
A meal would not be complete without some dessert, therefore, Markus Restaurant takes the effort to add in some tasty dessert into their menu, where guest can choose to sums up their dining experience here at Markus Restaurant with some nice dessert. Limoncello Souffle here is served with a scoop of Vanilla Haagen Dazs Ice Cream. The Limoncello is their homemade lemon liqueur which is mix into the Souffle giving it a nice mild taste of Lemon.
Classic Tiramisu
Last but not forgetting, the Classic Tiramisu which use lady fingers, chocolate chips, Italian amaretto liquor and Italian mascarpone cheese to make. Markus Restaurant changes their menu from time to time in order to keep the choices of food fresh by removing some old items, adding new or mixing and twisting their food to create something different so that guest can try out different food.
