The BAR°N (The Barn) which is located at the famous Gurney Plaza in Penang which is just directly opposite G Hotel Gurney is serving a wide range of wine, drinks and variety of food with some local Penang touch to it.
The Barn is a very classy place with dimly lit light inside to bring out the comfortable and relaxing feel as you dine in. There are a lot of seating place inside and some outside of The Barn, with each table being speciously placed apart from each other, this makes dining in here even more comfortable as you can stretch out as much as you like without the worry of bumping the seat behind you.
May it be for a glass of wine with friends or a fulfilling meal with family, The Barn got you covered with variety of food and many different choices of wine, cocktails, scotch whisky, malt whisky, cognac, vodka and many more ! The one food that goes really well with wine or cocktails are The Barn's perfectly cooked meat and their filling pasta.
Spaghetti Aglio Olio with Crispy Pork Belly RM 19.90
At The Barn, they serve few different types of Spaghetti but in order to localize the pasta serve here, The Barn added Crispy Pork Belly to their Spaghetti Aglio Olio. This plate of spaghetti is tossed with olive oil, chili flakes and garlic topped with some crispy pork belly. Sprinkled with fresh Italian parsley and shaved Parmesan cheese. The Crispy Pork Belly taste nice, the outer layer is crispy and it is not too hard while the inner side is soft.
Flaming Pork Spare Ribs RM 62.00
My personal favorite is The Barn's Flaming Pork Spare Ribs. It is a cooked pork spare ribs glazed with orange barbecue sauce and flambe with whisky. Served with fries and seasonal vegetables. The meat is really soft, tasty and the meat does not stick much to the bone. The barbecue sauce is tasty and it goes really well with the Pork Spare Ribs.
Meat Lovers Platter RM 92.00
If you are here at The Barn for a glass of wine or any alcoholic drinks, munching on some small bites is really nice, this is where the Meat Lovers Platter comes in. This combination of crispy pork belly, grilled magro, dynamite chili chicken sausage, smoked chicken cheese sausage, chicken wings, luncheon fries and pork satay will definitely match very well with the wine serve here. This is a very interesting combination of meat put in one platter. It also comes with a small bowl of mayonnaise for any of the meat and a bowl of satay sauce to go with the satay. This combination goes well together but what really caught my attention is their Pork Belly. Regardless of whether you ordered the Meat Lovers Platter or Spaghetti Aglio Olio, the Pork Belly that comes with it is soft on the inner layer and is crispy on the outer layer. The crispy level is just nice and not too much that it becomes hard to chew on.

The Barn also serve some signature drinks from their Scotch Whisky section in the menu like Johnnie Walker ranging from Gold Label Reserve to Blue Label and from Dewar's of 12 years until Dewar's of 18 years. If you would prefer something light, you may choose to try their cocktails of which i find refreshing like the Sexy Monica and Frozen Island. You can be more adventurous to try out The Barn's wine which comes from all around the world. There are wine from Australia like the Moss Wood Semillon, Alto Sauvignon Blanc from Chile or some really classic old world wines from Germany like the Zeltinger Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett Halbtrocken. You will be spoiled for choice. Overall, The Barn is an awesome place, with good food, friendly services and comfortable environment.
