Frank Laurent Coffee Roasters @ Udini Square, Gelugor, Penang

I have always had a very strong impression on Frank Laurent Coffee Roasters as the Coffee Roasters at Udini Square that serve really good coffee and their shop are full with really good aroma of coffee being roasted, haha !


Recently i visited Frank Laurent Coffee Roasters at Udini Square again and to my surprise that small Coffee Roasters shop that i used to know is now a big place with a lot of new food being added to their menu and there are even some activities like Latte Art workshop, Coffee Tasting workshop and more that guest can pre-register to join, not only that, Frank Laurent Coffee Roasters now has a total of four outlet in Penang alone, with one at Udini Square as their Head Quarters, Forward school at Georgetown, Southbay Plaza at Batu Maung and Mason at Macalister. It is now even more convenient for coffee lover to get their daily does of Frank Laurent Coffee fixed. Even better Frank Laurent is opening soon at Sungai Petani, Kedah !



Thought the outlet in Udini Square has expended but the place is still as nice and comfortable as before, the good thing now is, there are more seating place for dine in, how cool is that ?


Staying true to their roots, Frank Laurent Coffee Roasters will always be a Coffee Roasters as in putting their Coffee first above others even though their food serve has increase, so with that said, there is no doubt that their quality of coffee is still as good as ever. From their Espresso Based Coffee, you can find Long Black, Cappuccino, Mocha or Blue Cappuccino and more. What i try during my visit is the Pour Over coffee, the coffee bean that they use for my pour is not acidic making it kind to my tummy. There is no very empowering after taste and it is smooth to the tongue.

Being creative and different is one of the unique thread i see in Frank Laurent Coffee Roasters, they are now even making their own homemade Gelato using technique and equipment like those from Italy. There are many different flavour of Gelato to choose from and they are still experimenting to produce more flavour in future. For now, there are flavours like Dark Chocolate, Hojicha, French Vanilla, Earl Grey Milk Tea, Matcha, Passionfruit Jasmin Green Tea, Chocolate Mint, Lemon and more.



I manage to try their Gelato and be creative with it so i decided to have the new Durian flavour of Gelato to go together with a cup of Latte and call it a cup of Affogato Coffee. Surprisingly, the Gelato goes well with the Latte. The taste of the Durian Gelato is not very strong like how other durian is, not too sweet and the texture is smooth making it goes well together with the Latte and it does not over-power the taste of the Latte. The mild sweetness of the Durian Gelato is able to complement the mild bitter taste of the Coffee making this cup of Affogato taste good. Durian Gelato here is made from combination of few different types of Durian to suit the taste buds of their guest. There is also the Matcha Affogato and Hojicha Affogato from their menu. Hojicha Affogato taste good too, the taste of the Hojicha is bolder and has a rich smoky flavour.

Other than having the Gelato in your cup of drinks, you may also opt to have them in their Signature Waffles. In order to give guest more choices to choose, Frank Laurent Coffee Roasters also come up with few different flavours of Waffles which you may choose to mix and match with the choice of Gelato on top of the Waffle. For the Waffle, there are flavours like Apple Crumble, Chocolate Banana, Mixed Berries, Almond Berries Matcha, Marshmallow Banana Coffee or you may go for a Plain Waffle if you want something simple.

For my Almond Berries Matcha Waffle, i choose to top it with a big scoop of Chocolate Espresso Gelato covered with a layer of Matcha sauce. The Waffle is crunchy on the outside and there is Matcha taste on the inside.



With Frank Laurent's menu being expended, there are now more different type of food for guest to choose which range from Pasta to Pizza and from different type of Dessert to Grilled Press Sandwich. In terms of Pasta, there are two different cooking of Pasta available there namely Tomyam and Aglio Olio Pasta serve with choice of Mushroom Egg, Fish Fillet and Egg, Turkey Ham and Egg, Chicken Patty and Egg and Smoked Salmon.

The Tomyam with Mushroom Egg Pasta is actually a plate of Spaghetti cooked with Tomyam, a lot of Mushroom and a Sunny Side up Egg on top. The Tomyam taste is strong but not too spicy making it a bit salty and sour kind of taste which is really appetizing. Tomyam Pasta can also go with the Smoked Salmon and Egg, so regardless of which type of pasta cooking you choose, you can always customize it with the choice they have from their menu.

Smoked Salmon and Egg Grilled Press Sandwich


Smoked Salmon and Egg Grilled Press Sandwich is also a good choice when dining in at Frank Laurent if you wish to have something light to munch on. The Smoked Salmon is very fresh and soft, i have only one word for this, Tasty !



The egg yolk from the Grilled Press Sandwich ooze out the moment i cut through it, this makes the Grilled Press Sandwich looks more interesting to eat and it is tempting me to eat more, so i put my diet aside, eat first, think later .. haha !



Other than those food mentioned here in this post, Frank Laurent Coffee Roasters have more food waiting for you to explore it yourself, especially those small bites food like their Portuguese Egg Tart, Cakes which is serve in collaboration with other bakery shop, fruits juice by Morley and more.
