Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion is one of the many famous mansion in Penang but probably not many people know that it is also being called as The Blue Mansion. Not only that Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion is a nice place for photography but it also has a fine dine restaurant in it, which they call it as the Indigo Restaurant.
If you are someone who love photography and want to take some photo of local baba nyonya feel, then Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion is the perfect place to go.
Other than the awesome environment in The Blue Mansion, the food serve at Indigo Restaurant is also tasty, service is superb but food serving is a little slow. Since this is a fine dining, the size of the food serving is small too but the taste is not compromise, it is tasty and just enough to fill up the tummy.
During my visit to Indigo Restaurant, i tried their 5 course meal, they also have the 7 course tasting menu if you which to go for something more. The 5 course meal that i had start of with a simple 2 slice of bread with some butter. Just a simple plain bread is nice here, the bread is crunchy and it is nice to munch on it while i wait for the next course to be serve.
Fresh Gallagher Oyster
Fresh Gallagher Oyster here is serve with ponzu, small pieces of cucumber and ikura. The Oyster is so fresh without the usual nasty oyster smell that you get at other place. I finish this in one mouth full. A good plate of fresh Oyster to start the meal.
Seared Hokkaido Scallop
Not chewy and is juicy, that is how the Seared Hokkaido Scallop taste like at Indigo Restaurant, it is serve with cauliflower puree, basil oil and chervil. I love the chervil as it give some nice smell to the Scallop as it bite into it.
Seared Duck Foie Gras
If i have to pick a favorite, i will have to go with this plate of Seared Duck Foie Gras. The Duck Foie Gras has a very thin crunchy outer layer and as you bite through it, the inner layer is juicy and soft, every bite is really satisfying. The poultry jus add some salty flavor to it, serve with hazelnut puree, marinated maitake mushroom and poultry jus.
Char Grilled New Zealand Premium Lamb Loin
I was asked how i want the Lamb Loin to be done ? so i opt for a medium done Lamb Loin, not too tough and not too raw, just nice. It is serve with sweet potato puree, baby bok choy and forest berry jus. A balance plate with meat and some greens.
Wild Caught Snapper
Last but not least, is their tasty plate of Wild Caught Snapper fish ! It is serve with couscous, raisins, olives, tomato confit, rocket leaves and caper-lime vinaigrette.
70% Dark Chocolate and Strawberry Petit Gateau
To end the meal on a sweet note, the course meal comes with a dessert made from fresh strawberries, cookie crumble and raspberry sorbet. Dining here in Indigo Restaurant is amazing, love their food and comfortable environment. A set meal like this cost RM 344.00 per person.
